Dressing with Dignity: Clothing for Ukraine’s Amputees

*If you would like your donation to support this specific cause, please include the project name as a reference when making your donation.

The war in Ukraine has caused unimaginable loss, including life-changing injuries for thousands of individuals. By August 2023, it was estimated that there were up to 50,000 amputees in Ukraine - a number that has since continued to rise. These individuals face immense challenges in adapting to their new circumstances, including finding clothing that accommodates their prostheses.

Specially designed inclusive clothing can play a crucial role in restoring dignity, comfort and confidence for amputees. UAID International has partnered with LAD Volunteers Charity Fund in Ukraine to provide such clothing. Together, they are creating trousers designed specifically for amputees, featuring zippers, side fasteners and adjustable trouser-leg lengths. These functional yet stylish garments ensure ease of access to prosthetics while supporting social integration and post-injury adaptation.

Why This Project is Important

Dignity in Everyday Life: Amputees often struggle with the limited availability of suitable clothing. Providing inclusive trousers helps individuals feel more confident and comfortable in their daily lives.

Practical Support: These specially designed trousers simplify access to prostheses and accommodate a wide range of needs, from size and fit to climate requirements.

Expanding Impact: With your help, production can grow to meet the increasing demand, ensuring that more amputees have access to these vital garments.

Who Benefits: This project helps not only war veterans but also civilians who lost their legs when their homes were bombed. Many of them have lost both their homes and their limbs. Any civilian without legs, no matter the cause, can also apply for support.

Cost Breakdown

The cost of production depends on the season:

  • Warm Season: £14–£22 per pair (£18 average)

  • Cool Season: £22–£30 per pair (£26 average)

Currently, LAD Volunteers can produce 100 pairs of trousers per month, but this falls far short of the growing need. Every donation contributes directly to increasing production and supporting more amputees across Ukraine.

How You Can Help

Your donation, no matter the size, helps ensure that every amputee has access to clothing that supports their independence and dignity. All trousers are delivered to recipients completely for free. By funding the production of inclusive trousers, you can have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by war.
