Artist: Nadiia Rom
Nadiia is an artist and architect whose work focuses on the quiet beauty of everyday life and the emotional weight of trauma, loss, and resilience. Working in oil, pastel, and watercolor, she captures fleeting moments and natural rhythms as a way to process personal and collective experience.
Originally trained in painting and architectural design, she founded the DADAdesign studio in 2007 and returned fully to art in 2016 during a personal crisis. Since relocating to the UK in 2022 due to the war, she has exhibited across Europe, including in London, Edinburgh, Zurich, Madrid, and Paris.
“My art is centred around emphasizing the beauty of simple things that people usually don’t notice and, hence, underestimate.
By looking through a prism of my own pain and anxiety caused by war in my homeland, I explore the ways of processing trauma through my art, including the trauma of irreversible losses. I’m aiming to uncover how simple and easily reached things bring balance and stability to out life. By capturing the colors of nature around or quick everyday emotions of people surrounding me with oil on canvas and with pastels or watercolors on paper, I notice the cycles of processes of genesis, existing and living through the change of colors. This is the way I gain inner balance and harmony that I want to share with the audience.”
