About the event

This training and diagnostic bionic hand was requested by Orthotex-Service, a clinic specialising in prosthetics in the West of Ukraine, to support medical assessment and rehabilitation of patients who are in need of prosthetic hands and arms as a result of combat trauma. Thanks to this new device, the clinic will be able to assess whether patients would be able to benefit from a bionic prosthetic and to help them practice using bionic technology close to their homes without the need to travel abroad, which will reduce the cost and the stress currently associated with this type of medical treatment in Ukraine.

The training bionic hand was developed by a UK company RSL Steeper Technology, which has over 90 years of experience in developing prosthetic and orthopaedic devices.Ukraine Aid was founded by Ukrainian community in the UK to help those whose lives were changed by war in Ukraine, and who are now in need of medical assistance.

Ukraine Aid raised £ 5,765 through charity events in London, such as concerts of a Ukrainian singer Mariya Burmaka and a Ukrainian Orthodox Church Choir, and through individual donations.  The training bionic hand cost £4,128.  The remainder of the funds will be used for further support of the wounded and Ukraine Aid will share a further update about this in due course.

Segiy Tovstyk, an IT specialist and a father of a small child, who lost both of his hands as a result of a wound sustained in combat in the East of Ukraine in 2014, will be one of the first patients who will benefit from the new bebionic 3 prosthesis from  RSL Steeper Technology.
