About This Event
Ukraine is facing numerous pressures: the ongoing war with Russia, the loss of Crimea and much of the Black and Azov Seas, the impact of Coronavirus, the global financial crisis, and a new Zelenski Government. Glen Grant will provide context on the current situation in Ukraine. He will address the war with Russia, including the President’s initiatives for Donbas and Russia’s influence on internal politics. Glen will also cover legal reforms and challenges within the defence sector, drawing on his experience with defence committees, and discuss future social and financial uncertainties. Additionally, he will outline the value and challenges of UK defence support for Ukraine, the recent developments following President Zelenski’s visit, and the implications for future UK-Ukraine defence relations.
Glen Grant is a security and defence expert at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, where he supports both the President’s Administration and the Parliamentary Defence Committee, while also providing leadership and support to NGOs and defence volunteers. He has drafted a national security strategy and is a Senior Fellow at the UK Institute for Statecraft. Based in Riga, Glen frequently lectures at Riga Technical University and Riga Business School on Strategy, HRM, Entrepreneurship, and Crisis Management.
Glen’s extensive experience includes working with the Defence Ministries and military staffs of the UK, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Kosovo, Albania, Slovenia, Serbia, and Chile. In 2016, he managed a UK-funded project on “Reform of Defence Housing” and published a groundbreaking paper on military reform in Ukraine in 2018. His academic publications cover topics such as “Defence Models” and “Identifying the Challenges to Defence Reform in Central and Eastern Europe,” and more recently, “Interoperability Challenges in the Baltic States for Meeting Hybrid Warfare and Ground Force Threats.”
